14th Asiagate Annual Conference - Sofitel Plaza Hanoi Hotel, Hanoi, Vietnam

Asiagate, the world’s largest Asian company credit information gateway, will hold its 14th annual conference in Hanoi, Vietnam on 14th and 15th May, 2015 at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi Hotel.

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and the country's 2nd largest city.  From 1010 until 1802, it was the most important political centre of Vietnam, when it was then eclipsed by Hue, the imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945). In 1945 it briefly became the seat of the Viet Minh government after Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the independence of Vietnam.  However, the French returned and reoccupied the city in 1946 and Hanoi continued to serve as the capital of French Indochina until 1954, when after nine years of fighting between French and Viet Minh forces, it became the capital of an independent North Vietnam. In 1976 after the end of the Vietnam War, it became the capital of a reunified Vietnam when North and South Vietnam were reunited on July 2, 1976.

As the capital of Vietnam for almost a thousand years, Hanoi is considered one of the main cultural centers of Vietnam, where most Vietnamese dynasties have left their imprint.  Even though some relics have not survived through wars and time, the city still has many interesting cultural and historical monuments.  The city hosts more than 1,000 years of history and that of the past few hundred years has been well preserved.

The Sofitel Plaza Hanoi Hotel has been chosen as the conference venue.  This venue is a 5-star hotel which enjoys a spectacular location rising up between the watery expanses of Truc Bach Lake, West Lake and the Red River with inspiring, uninterrupted panoramas.  Guests can gaze out upon magnificent vistas from the frameless panoramic windows of their luxurious hotel rooms as well as enjoy the attractions of the Old Quarter and city monuments nearby.

The annual conference will be hosted by Asiagate Vietnam and chaired by Asiagate Hong Kong.  The conference is expected to include progress updates from the Marketing & Planning Committee (chaired by Asiagate India) and I.T. Committee, development status of the updated Asiagate website and the welcoming of new members.

ACA International will hold its 2015 Washington Insights Conference at The Hyatt Regency, Washington on Capitol Hill, Washington D.C., USA on 14-15 April 2015.

Now is a critical moment in Washington D.C.  As a result of the November 2014 elections, Republicans now control both the Senate and the House, and there is a new determination to get things done.  New Congressional members are now learning what they need to know about the issues and concerns, we face everyday.  Even political veterans are rethinking priorities for the next two years.  To make sure our views are part of those discussions, now is the time to cultivate new relationships and or further develop existing relationships with your Members of Congress.

Join your fellow members in D.C. for this vital meeting and find out why ACA is the national leader representing our industry. Those who attend this meeting will be well informed about what is coming to our industry.  You will be able to hear from the source what actions are bing considered by regulators of the US federal government.  At this meeting, you will meet and hear from leading members of Congress, industry-leading lobbyists and officials from regulatory agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Keynote speakers will include Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, political commentator and author Dr. Charles Krauthammer.  This will be a unique opportunity to experience an "insiders view" of Washington. Bankruptcy Filings Decrease by 12 Percent in 2014

    Jan 06, 2015

The American Bankruptcy Institute reports that continued low interest rates and high filing costs deter consumers and businesses away from filing bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy filings in the U.S. totaled 910,090 in for calendar year 2014 (Jan. 1-Dec. 31), a 12 percent decrease from the 1,032,572 total filings during the same period a year ago, according to data provided to the American Bankruptcy Institute by Epiq Systems, Inc.

Noncommercial filings, 875,635 during calendar year 2014, represented an 11 percent decline from the 988,489 noncommercial filings during calendar year 2013, according to a news release from the American Bankruptcy Institute.

There were 34,455 total commercial bankruptcy filings during calendar year 2014, a 22 percent drop from the 44,083 filings during the same period in 2013.

"Annual total filings fell for the fifth consecutive year and dipped under one million for the first time since 2007," said ABI Executive Director Samuel J. Gerdano. "Sustained low interest rates and high costs to file continue to turn consumers and businesses away from the Bankruptcy Code for a financial fresh start."

In December 2014, total bankruptcy filings declined 5 percent to 63,090 when compared to the 66,530 filings in December 2013. There were 60,625 total noncommercial filings in December 2014, also representing a 5 percent drop from the December 2013 noncommercial filings, which totaled 63,621.

Total commercial filings for December 2014 were 2,465, representing a 15 percent decrease from the 2,909 filings during the same period in 2013, according to the news release. Commercial chapter 11 filings registered a 12 percent drop as the 397 chapter 11 filings in December 2013 fell to 349 in December 2014. The average total filings per day in December 2014 were 2,035, a 5 percent decrease from the 2,146 total daily filings in December 2013.

To provide distressed companies better access to the rehabilitative powers of the Bankruptcy Code, the ABI Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11 released its final report in December containing recommendations for modernizing chapter 11 business reorganizations, according to the news release. The commission's final report recommends improvements to the code to account for today’s evolving corporate climate and to encourage debtors to file before they have to liquidate.
